Payyanur: Payyanur Municipality allotted Rs.16 Lakhs for the immediate maintanance of the bypass road. The bypass road was totally collapsed and was unfit for traffic despite of several repairing attempts. New traffic rules will be imposed in the town once the bypass maintanance begins- informed Municipality sources. They also informed that the old municipal office building in the busstand will be demolished and will be allocated for KSRTC bus parking.
Payyanur: The perumkaliyattam will be celbrated at Padoli Bhagavathy Temple of Payyanur from 1st to 6th March,2003.
Payyanur: A group of anti social elements destroyed the bus-waitng shed and the flag post installed by BJP at Ettikulam on thursday night. BJP Payyanur Mandalam Committee alleged that Muslim League workers are responsbile for this. Police arrested 8 Muslim League workers including two students-one tenth standard student of Ettikulam GHS and another parallel college student- in connection with the incident.

Pariyaram: The fee structure for the management quota seats of the para medical courses at Pariyaram Medical College has been decided at the council meeting yesterday. As per this, the admission fee for B.Sc Nursing will be Rs. 1.5 Lakhs and Rs.45,000 as tuition fee per year. For other para medical course like CMLT, OT Technician, Cardio-vascular technician,hospital assistant the fees will be from Rs.25,000 to Rs.35,000.
Kannur: The short-story Muttamillatha Kuttikal, by Ashraf Adoor, has won the award for the best short-story instituted by the Malayala Bhasha Patasala, an institution to promote Malayalam language and literature.Announcing the winners of the state-level literary contests organised by the Patasala, T P Bhaskara Poduval, director, said the first prize for story writing among college students went to Hey Ram by Abdul Salam. In the high school section, Mazhakkayi by Sabna S bagged the first prize.In the poetry contest under general category, Savalayam authored by Santhosh Koramangalam was adjudged the best. Aarum Jalakam Thurannidaruhtu, a poetry by Abdul Salam bagged the first prize in the contest for college students, while Nilavilikal by Sabna S was selected the best in the high school section.

Payyanur: The thiruvathira festival of the Trikkutyeri Kailasanatha Temple, Kaithapram will be held tomorrow (20th Dec).Various cultural programms including the dance performance by Bhaaskara also will be staged as part of the festival.
Payyanur: All arrangments are nearing completion for the Perumkaliyattam of Karivellur Muchilottu Bhagavathy Temple. The kaliyattam which is being celebrated after 14 years will be held from 7th to 14th January,2003. The "ezhunnellathu" (solemn procession) of the "komarams" of the deities Muchilottu Bhagavathy,Kannangat Bhagavathy, Pullloor Kali and Pulikandan Theyyams started yesterday after the prayer at Karivellur Shiva Temple. They will be visiting all the houses in the locality of the temple in the coming days.
Payyanur: As per BSNL, the announced number change will not be applicable to Payyanur for the timebeing. However the telephone numbers will go 7 digit by prefixing 2 with the existing number in Kannur and Thalassery Areas from tomorrow midnight. Along with Payyanur, the telephone numbers of Taliparamba, Kanhangad and Kasargode also will remain unchanged.
