Assault Against Sudhakaran: Court Acquits CPM Workers

Payyanur: The Payyanur first class magistrate court acquited the accused CPM workers for attacking K.Sudhakaran and destroying his car at Indiraji Hospital. The incident happend on15th Septemebr,1996 when K.Sudhakaran reached Indiraji hospital to visit the congress workers injured in the clashes in connection with the Service Co-op Bank election.


Assault Against Bank Staff: Case Against CPM Leaders

Payyanur: Polce charged case against CPM leaders for the alleged assault on the employees of Taliparamba Taluk Agricultural Devp Bank, Payyanur. It is reported that three employees of the bank, who were under suspension, reported to the bank's head office at Payyanur to rejoin based on the administrator's order, were assaulted by the CPM leaders present at the bank. Based on a complaint from these employees police filed case against the CPM leaders- KM Joseph, EP Karunakaran,KVBalakrishanan and 10 others.

High Court Stays Demolition of Building

Payyanur: The Kerala High Court stayed the move of Payyanur Municipality to demolish the new building of Pavitra Jewellery Payyanur. Mucipality had found that the building was constructed encroaching the main road and issued notice to the owner asking for demolition of the building within seven days. The owner approached high court and obtained stay for the move.


KG Marar Memorial at Payyanur

Payyanur: A memorial for the late BJP leader KG Marar is being built at Payyanur. The memorial named as Mararji Mandiram is being setup by Deenadayal Education Charitable Trust of Payyanur. BJP general secretary PP Mukundan will lay the foundation stone for the memorial today at the site near Mukunda Hospital Payyanur. PP Karunakaran Master will preside over the function.


MOU Signed For Pineapple Factory At Kannur

Kannur: MK Raghavan, the KPCC secretary and the chairman of Agreenco and Rodni Ashbee , the president of Ashco, an American firm signed the memo of understanding to setting up a pineapple processing factory at Kannur. Rs 26 crores will be invested for this project. According to company sources, the project will be completed by the beginning of 2004 and can directly provide about 300 job opportunities.


MYC Kunhimangalam Anniversary

Payyanur: The 16th anniversary of MYC Kunhimanglam was celebrated at Kunhimangam with various functions. Sri Nalakath Sooppy, the minister for education was the chief guest. He also distributed the gold medals provided by its UAE committee to the SSLC winners. Sri VK Abdulkhader Moulavi inaugurated the celebrations. MKP Mustafa presided over. VP Vamban, AP Alikunji, KK Ashraf, Omar Farooq also addressed the meeting.

Demolition Of Old Municipal Office Begins

Payyanur: Atlast the municipality started the demolition of the old municipal office inside the busstand. It was a long pending public demand for demlishing this unusable buliding and utilise the space for the expansion of the existing busstand. For the last three years this building remained abandoned providing shelter for immoral trafic and other antisocial activities. It is reported that this space will be allocated for parking KSRTC buses.
