Payyanur: The proposed CRPF Training Centre at Peringome will start functioning from October, 2001. In this connection, a top team lead by Shri Y.P.K. Reddy, the principal of CRPF RTC3 visited Peringome on Tuesday. 375 acres of land has already been acquired and arrangements are being made to start the first training session for 400 trainees. Construction works for road, hospital, water supply, store, mess etc. are in full swing.
Kannur: A new Ship Repairing Yard will be constructed at Madakkara in Kannur district , told Sri. MV Raghavan, the minister for Co-operation and Ports. The estimated cost of the proposed yard is Rs.300 crores. He also told the press that the Azheekal Port will be renovated at an estimated cost of Rs.500 crores.
Kannur: The State Conferenece of the CPI-M will be held at Kannur from 15-18 February, 2002.
Kunhimangalam: A new Maveli Store will start functioning at Aandam Kovval at Kunhimangalam from next year onwards. This was informed by Sri. G.Karthikeyan, the minister for Civil Supplies at Thiruvananthapuram. He gave this assurance to the action committee members who met the minister yesterday.
Payyanur: The protest against the alleged carelessness which resulted in the death of Smt.Praseetha at Sradha Hospital , owned by Dr.AV Govindan took a new turn yesterday when the action council started to picket the doctor's house. Police protection is provided to the doctor and his hospital as per the instructions from the High Court. Dr.AV Govindan and the Payyanur Branch of the Indian Medical Association denied the charges of carlessness from the side of the hospital.

Kannur: Sri. MV Raghavan, the minister for Co-operation clarified that there is no instruction from the Zoo Authority of India to close down the Parassinikadavu Snake Park. He was mentioning about the false news published in some news papers regarding the closing down of the Snake Park. Since there is a case pending with the High Court, there can not be any action taken against the park for the time being.

Payyanur: The North Malabar Trust for Science and Technology under the Rajeev Gandhi Foundation sponsored by the Non resident Keralaites is planning to setup a dental college at Pariyaram. The trust has purchased a land of 25 acres near to Pariyaram Medical College Campus for this purpose. According to the Trust sources, only 5 acres of land is required for the dental college but the trust is also planning to setup engineering and nursing colleges also in the same campus. The trust consists of UAE based businessmen, doctors and lawyers who hail from the North Malabar. The working capital of the trust is Rs.100 crores
