Environmental Seminar At Payyanur Tomorrow

Payyanur: An environmental seminar will be held at Payyanur tomorrow. The seminar being conducted as part of the anniversary celebrations of Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad will be held at Govt Boys HS Payyanur. Dr. YS Mohan Kumar will inaugurate the seminar at 9.30 pm. Various experts will attend the seminar.


Heavy Rush of Devotees At Karivellur Muchilottu

Payyanur: Devotees are rushing to Karivellur Muchilottu heavily for the perumkaliyattam being celebrated after a long gap of 14 years. Theyyams of Vishnumoorthi, Raktha Chamundi and Madayil Chamundi are performed outside the temple shrine while theyyams of Pulloor Kali, Pulikandan and Kannangat Bhagavathy are performed inside the shrine every morning. The number of devotees reaching at Karivellur is beyond all the expectations of the organising committee. About 30,000 devotees are dining every day from the oottupura arranged here


Bhoomi Pooja Performed at ‘The Mother School’ Project Site

Bhoomi Pooja was performed on 10th January 2003 at the proposed ‘The Mother School’ project Site at Vaipiriyam, near Mathil, by Shri Krishnan Namdoodiri Master, in the presence of Kankol-Alappadambu Panchayat President and other prominent personalities of the region. The Mother School is being set up by the Progressive Educational Trust, formed mainly by a group of likeminded NRIs from Payyanur and nearby areas. The state-of-the-art school is coming up at an 8-acre campus at Vaipiriyam, on the Payyanur-Cherupuzha Road.

The main objective of setting up ‘The Mother School’ is to impart quality education under CBSE syllabus in English Medium, right from the KG level to Higher Secondary level in order that the growing needs of a student in the current competitive world are fully met. In addition, more emphasis to Malayalam language and literature will also be given. The school will start functioning from the academic year 2004-2005.

P.Balan Master Nominated As Convenor of Dist Co-op Bank

Kannur: CMP Leader P.Balan Master has been nominated as the convenor of the administrative committee of the Kannur District Co-operative Bank. The administrative committee will continue until an elected board of directors come into power. Congress leader CM Karunakaran Nambiar and Muslim league nominee S.Muhammad are the other members of the administrative committee. Balan Master took charge as the administrator of the bank this evening. We congratulates Balan Master, who is the patron of Payyanur Dot Com on this occasion.


Kalathilakam For Neethu In Kasargode Dist Youth Festival

Payyanur: Neethu A Kumar of Trikaripur Govt Higher Secondary HS secured the kalathilakam title in the Kasrgode district schools youth festival held at Parappa which conculded yesterday. Neethu secured this most coveted title in an inch-to-inch fighting with her nearest competant. Neethu won prizes in Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kathakali Music, Malayalam recitation and Mono-act. Neethu is the daughter of Excise Inspector A Kumaran and AV Shobha and is staying near Payyanur Government Hospital.


Salt Offerings For Perumakaliyattam From Muslim Tharavadu

Payyanur: The salt for preparing food for the devotees at Karivellur Muchilottu Perumkaliyattam is being provided as per tradition by a Muslim Family; Thalayillath Tharavadu of Kuniyan Kizhakkekkara of Karivellur. A special pandal is also being erected in the temple compound for this family to co-ordinate the activities of the festival. Accoriding the custom of the Muchilottu Kavu, shortage for any commodity occur in the kitchen during the festival, it has be provided by the Thalayillath Family. Shri Abdul Aziz, the present represenatative of the family is always available in the temple with enough stock of all essential commodities to ensure that the traditional custom is protected. Thus; the Muchilottu Perumakaliyattam also serve as a model for co-existence and communal harmony.


AKG Statue Getting Ready At Payyanur

Payyanur: The statue of AKG, the late commuist leader is getting ready at Payyanur. The statue will be erected in the Indian Parliament compound at New Delhi. The noted artist-sculptur Kunhimangalam Narayanan Master is casting the bronze statue of the great leader. The 9 feet tall bronze statue has a weight of 1500 kg. Already there is a statue of AKG erected at Caltex junction at Kannur which is also created by Narayanan Master. He has many statues like Quit India statue at Payyanur, Gandhiji statue at Gandhimandiaram Payyanur, Kelappan statue at Uliyathukadavu to his credit.

NH between Perumba & Pariyaram Accident Prone Area

Payyanur: The 10 kilometer long road in the National Highway 17 between Perumba and Pariyaram has become a very high accident prone area. 10 people lost their lives and several people injured in various accidents during the last six months on this road . The overspeeding of the vechicles are the main reason for the repeated accidents. Eventhough highway police is taking measures to control the speed of the vechicles they are inadequate.


2.5 Lakhs Devotees Expected To Dine

Karivellur: About 2.5 lakhs of devotees are expected to dine at the oottupura arranged at Karivellur Muchilottu Kavu in the seven days long perumkaliyattam. The water for cooking will be taken from the temple-well called manikkinar manually using buckets. About 100 volunteers are selected for this herculian task. The dining hall has a capacity to accomodate 2000 male and 2500 female devotees.


Karivellur Muchilottu Perumkaliyattam Begins Today

Karivellur: The perumkaliyattam at Karivellur Muchilottu Kavu will begin today. Minister K.Sudhakaran will inaugurate the cultural programs at 6 pm today and T.Govindan MP will prside over the function. The souvenier named as chembola will be published at the function. T.Raghavan Nair will receive the first copy from the minister. Poet V.Madhusoodanan Nair will offer the main speech. K.Narayanan, panchayath president will present a momento to Balan Pala, the artist who designed the cover page of the souvenier. The meeting will be followed by dance programs.

A seminar will be held at 4pm tomorrow (8th January) on the subject nadum nadakavum. KPSateesh Chandran MLA will inaugurate the seminar and P.Appukuttan Master will preside over. TP Bhaskara Poduval will present the subject. A drama will be staged at 9 pm.

9th January: Kolkali will be performed at 5 pm. MV Raghavan, minister for co-operation will inaugurate the seminar on Folklorum Puthiya Kaalavumat 6pm. Sanal Kumar IAS, district collector of Kasargode will preside over the function.

10th January: A discussion will be held at 6pm on the subject maarunna kaalam, maarunna kala. M.Anirudhan, the district collector of Kannur will inaugurate the event and P.Kannan Master will preside over.

11th January: Aksharashloka Sadassu will be held at 4pm. The closing cermony of the cultural programms will be inaugurated by VS Achutanandan, the opposition leader and minister Cherkalam Abdulla will preside over . Meldies Orchestra,Payyanur will present a Ganamela at 9 pm which will be lead by filmstar Ashokan.

Pavur Kannan Died

Payyanur: The veteran communist and participant of the Munayankunnu struggle, Pavur Kannan died at Payyanur today.He was 94. He lost his left leg in the police firing at Munayankunnu. Hartal was observed at Korom today to mourn the death of Kannan.


CentFest To Begin Today

Payyanur: The CENTFEST- science exhibition conducted as part of the centenary celebrations of the Vellur Govt.LP School and Higher Secondary School will begin today. T.Govindan MP will inaugurate the exhbition and S.Jyothi, municipal chairperson will preside over the function. The exhibition will long upto 11th of this month. Stalls of various government, semi-government, private firms and cultural organisations are arranged int the exhbition centre.

School Youth Festival:Kunhimangalam Champions

Payyanur: Kunhimangalam Govt HSS won the over-all championship in the Madayi educational sub-district school youth festival held at Kunhimangalam.
