NewDelhi: The Ezhimala Naval Academy will be commissioned by the mid of 2006, informed George Fernandez- the union defense minister at New Delhi. The estimated cost of the academy is Rs.166.94 crores. Special degree courses (B.Sc-Special) will be offered here for 600 candiates per batch.

Payyanur: In a press conference, Shri K.P. Kunhikannan, KPC General Secretary informed that Payyanur has set ready for the State level Kranti Jyothi Yathra inauguration to be held on 9th August, 2003 to commemorate the 61st anniversary of Quite India Agitation. At the Payyanur Police ground which witnessed the Quit India Agitation, the KPCC President Shri K. Muralidharan will light the Jyothi on 9th August, 2003 at 10.00 am.
Payyanur:The new director board of the Payyanur Co-op Education Society which runs the Madayi College was unanimously elected at its general body meeting held at Payyanur. AV Govindan Adiyodi has been reelected as the president .
Payyanur:First bus service started operating from Pariyaram Medical College. The service from Mattannur to Pariyaram MC via Thalipparamba-Parassinikadavu-Mayyil will operate 3 services daily. The buses will stop at Pariyaram MC for 15 minutes during each service. The parking space for the buses is arranged by the Medical College managment. The hospital managment has requested the RTO to start bus services on various routes like Mattul-Pazhayangadi-Ezhom, Olayambadi-Kadannappalli-Mathamangalam,Cherupuzha-Peringome etc to the Medical Collge.
Payyanur:The SNGD Trust, formed by the Payyanur regional committee of SNDP Yogam will launch an ambulance service at Payyanur. The ambulance service will be formally inaugurated by MB Sreekumar, the Devaswom secretary of SNDP, at Payyanru Gandhi Maidan on 16th August.
Payyanur: The science exhibition of Kendreeya Vidyalayas began at Payyanur yesterday. Several central schools from Kerala and Karanataka are participating in the exhibition. KV Narayanan, principal of Payyanur college inaugurated the event.

Cherupuzha: Merchants and Taxi Drivers of Cherupuzha Town planted Areca nut and Banana Trees on the Road in protest against the inefficiency of the Panchayat Authorities in removing the waste deposited on the road side by cleaning the drainage months back. The common public also turned against the Panchayat Authorities for their unacceptable attitude towards public interest.
Left Wing Students March Results into Internal Fighting
Payyanur: The Left Wing Students march against the Education Policy of Mr. AK Antony Government held at Payyanur resulted into internal fighting between the SFI and AISF groups. The march started from Perumba split on its way to Payyanur town as the SFI students sidelined the AISF activists by not allowing them to hold their flags and chant slogan. The AISF activists then deplored the elder brother attitude of SFI.
