Payyanur To Be Free From Child-Labour

Payyanur: Payyanur will become free from child-labour . The move to make the town free from child labourers are carried out jointly by Junior Chamber and Hotel&Restaurant Association. The announcement will be done at a function held on 5th August at Chamber of Commerce Auditorium at 3 pm. S.Jyothi, the municipal chairperson will inaugurate the function and KP Balakrishna Poduval will preside over.

LDF responsible for KSEB Crisis: KP Kunhikkannan

Kannur: KP Kunhikkannan, the general secretary of KPCC and the member of KSEB stated that the previous LDF government has the sole responsibility for KSEB's present crisis. It was the LDF governemnt who has formed the regulatory commission to revive the tarrif and now they are opposing the regulatory commission. He was inaugurating the kannur district conference of the Kerala Electricity Employees Confederation (INTUC) at Kannur yesterday.


Corruption In Municipality's Road Constructions:Vigilance Recmds Action

Payyanur: Massive corruption has been found out in various road construction works carried out by Payyanur Municipality in an inquiry by the vigilance department. A corruption of Rs.2.5 lakhs has been pointed out in the construction works of Annur Padinjarekkara-Karyail and Korom-Pinnakumchal-Mundavalppu roads. Only 25% of the items shown in the bill has been used in the actual construction. The roads became unfit within three months after the construction. The inquiry report of the vigilance and anticorruption department recommended strong action against the contractor as well as the municipal authorities. Earlier the vigilance dept recommended similar action againt the authorities in the bypass road construction case also.

Number Plate: Police Harassing Drivers

Payyanur: Despite any official directive about writing vehicle numbers on number plates, the police are harassing drivers who were using stickers on the number plates. Widespread complaints about police charging such drivers have been lodged.

The government order on colour change of number plates was implemented with effect from June 30. According to the Central government order, taxis, buses and lorries should have yellow number plates with numerals written in black and private vehicles should have white background on which numbers are in black. The traffic police and transport officials said that there was no special directive regarding whether the numbers should be painted or if stickers can be used.


Army Rejects Certificates of Kannur University

Kannur: The Army has rejected applications of degree holders from Kannur University on grounds that the university has no recognition. About 200 applications for various posts in the army, air force and the navy have already been rejected for the same reason.

The officials said that they were acting on orders from the Army head quarters. The officials of the head quarters have ordered the recruiting units to accept Kannur University's degree certificates only after consulting with them.

Kannur University was established seven years back. Its courses have UGC recognition. The university is a member of the Association of Indian Universities. It has only to get University Grants Commission's financial aid. The University registrar K.H. Subrahmaniam said officials have taken the issue of rejecting applications seriously, and that they have informed the concerned authorities about it.

Payyanur: The employment bureau functioning at Payyanur has been closed down. Various youth organisations have demanded the reopening of the bureau.


Payyanur Centre Likely To Get Cancelled

Payyanur: The proposed university centre for M.Sc Computer Science at Payyanur is likely to get cancelled.The university is going to cancel the syndicate's decision to start the centre claiming unavailability of suitable location. But is it reported that the feud between the Vice Chancellor and Syndicate will be resulting in the cancellation of the course itself.
