Cherupuzha: The hands which carried lathy will now carry the Holy Bible. Sebastine, a native of Padiotuchal received priesthood from Thalassery Archbishop George Vakiyamattom and becomes Fr Joy. Joy Muttathupara was a police constable, PC 827, before he became a priest. He was working at Kasargod district police superintendent's office. He joined the police in 1990. In 1996 he resigned the job and joined at Thalassery Minor Seminary. Later he completed his spiritual studies from St Thomas Apostolic seminary.
Payyanur: The protest march of Muslim League workers demanding implementation of Narendran Commission report was held all over the state except Payyanur. The party workers abstained from the march to express their protest to the party leadership against the alleged police action against its workers at Payyanur. The leadership tried their level best to have the march conducted at Payyanru also but none of the workers co-operated.
Payyanur: All arrangments for the Perumkaliyattam of Karivellur Muchilottu Bhagavathy Temple have been completed. The perumkaliyattam is being celebrated after a long gap of 14 years. Karivellur and surrounding areas are really in festival mood now. The six day long perumkaliyattam will begin on 7th January 6 am
with a function of bringing deepavum thiriyum from Pilikode Rayaramangalam Temple to the Muchilottu Kavu. Food will be provided twice a day for about 2 lakhs of devotees on all the festival days. The dining hall has been arranged with a capacity to accomodate 4000 persons at a time. The perumkaliyattam will conclude on 12th January. The theyyam of the main deity Muchilottu Bhagavathy will be performed on 12th January.
Various cultural events are also organised as part of the grand celebrations. Sri.K.Sudhakaran, minister for forests, will inaugurate cultural programs on 7th January at 6 pm. The closing ceremony of the cultural events will be held on 11th January at 6 pm. Sri. VS Achuthanandan , the opposition leader will will inaugurate the closing function and Sri Cherkalam Abdulla, minister for local administration, will preside over.
Payyanur: A biography of Swami Anantha Theertha, the saint-revolutionist, who worked for the upliftment of the deprived class and fought against social evils like untouchability was released at Payyanur yesterday. The book written by EM Ashraf was formally released by IV Das, the president of the state library concil. PA Rasheed, president of the Kannur Merchants' Chamber received the first copy.

M.Anirudhan, the district collector inaugurated the function held at Sree Narayana Vidyalaya. V.Chandrasekharan Vaidyar presided over the function. .Swami Sachitananda offerd the main speech.

Payyanur: Governement sanctioned a grant of Rs.18 lakhs for the development work of Cherupuzha. The grant has been sanctioned on the request of KP SateeshChandran MLA.
Payyanur: Logos are invited for the 17th state youth volleyball championship to be held at Padiyotuchal near Payyanur. The championship will be held from 30th March to 6th Apri,2003. Cash award will be given to the selected logo. The entries should be addressed to Mr. Indrajith, Publicity Convenor,State Youth Volleyball Championship, Padiyotuchal-670511 and should reach on or before 5th January.
Payyanur: Sri. KP Sateesh Chandran MLA submitted a memorandum to the chief minister demanding a new fire station at Peringome. He said that the nearest firestation is at Payyanur and it will be practically impossible to get immediate action in emergency for the areas like Josegiri, Rajagiri,Cherupuzha, Tirumeni. He also pointed out that Peringome is already in the recommendations put by the Fire Force for new firestations
Payyanur: A statue of the great poet Changanpuzha is getting ready for installation at an artist's workshop at Payyanur. The statue will be erected at the poet's memorial at his birth place Edappally. The 4 feet tall statue is made of bronze by an artist N.Manoj Kumar who is a lecturer at Malayala Kala Gramam, Mahe. The statue whose weight is 260 Kg was made in bronze at the workshop of Vadakke Veedu near Thayineri, a well known family for its artistic tradition. The statue will be taken to Ernakulam on 2nd January. On 6th January, Chief Minister AK Antony will unveil the statue at Edappally. A committee with MV Devan as president and K.Balachandran as secretary is supervising the whole work.
Payyanur: Jawahar library and reading room of Vellur will be celebrating its golden jubilee next year. An organising committee has been formed to conduct a year-long celebrations.
Payyanur: A photo exhibition featuring the harmful effects of endosulphan was held at Kunhimangalam as part of the NSS camp. The photos were taken by Madhuraj, the staff photographer of Mathrubhumi.

M.Anirudhan, the district collector , will inaugurate the function at 10 am. A symposium on "Sree Narayana Movements and Swami Anantha Theertha" also will be held at the ashramam.
Payyanur: Payyanur is becoming the paradise for the robbers and thieves. A lot of incidents of theft and robbery are reported from the town itself in the recent days. Three shops in the main road itself were robbered yesterday night. Chamber of Commrece of Payyanur alleged that the negligence and inefficiency of the Police is the main reason for this repeated attempts of robbery.
Payyanur: The eight day long district study camp(padana sibiram) of RSS concluded yesterday. The camp was held at Govt Boys High School,Payyanur. Melath Chandrasekharan, the state president of Tapasya cultural organisation inaugurated the closing ceremony. KVR Payyanur presided over the function. A route march was also held in the town as part of the camp.
Payyanur: Noted film director Shaji N Karun inaugurated the state level professional drama competiton at Payyanur yesterday. The competition is conducted by Drisya arts society of Payyanur.
Payyanur: VP Rajeevan (KSEB) of Payyanur bagged the championship in the Kannur district senior chess tournament held at Thalassery. He will lead the four member team in the state senior chess championship.

Payyanur: The Kaliyattam of Kotti Kannangat Bhagavathy temple began yesterday and will conclude on 1st January,03. Various cultural programs will be staged during the festival. The theyyam of the main deity Kannangat Bhagavathy will be performed on 1st January at 12pm.
The festival of Korom Vararuchimangalam Mahavishnu temple will be celebrated from 30th December to 1st January. Variety of cultural programs are also being conducted as part of the festival.
Payyanur: The Muslim Youth League Payyanur Mandalam Committee decided to conduct protest march to the office of the deputy superintendent of Police, Taliparamab against the alleged police action against its workers.
Payyanur: A new private hospital will start functioning at Payyanur from 31st December,2002. Sri. P.Sankaran, the minister for health, will inaugurate the hospital named as SABA hospital located near Gandhi Maidan. Sri. T.Govindan MP will preside over the function and Sri. CT Ahmed Ali MLA will inaugurate the operation theatre of the hospital. A free medical camp will be conducted as part of the inaugural function. Dr.Narayana Moorthi of Bangalore will lead the medical team for the camp. The hospital has a capacity for 100 inpatients and has the facilities of casulalty, pharmacy, labs etc. The hospital is managed by North Malabar Development Soceity.
