Payyanur: Income Tax Department's officials conducted a raid at the textile godown owned by KV Damodaran, a leading textile merchant of Payyanur town. The officials lead by the dept's additional director Madhavan also sealed the godown. They conducted simultaneous raids at his house on the temple road and the shops at Payyanur town and Pilathara.

Payyanur: The capitation fees for admission to Pariyaram Medical College and Kochi Co-op- Medical College in the NRI quota has been slashed from USD 60,000 to USD 40,000(Rs 19 Lakhs). A total of 14 seats are reserved for NRI candidates in Pariyaram Medical College.

Payyanur: The comfort station being constructed at Payyanur municipal busstand will be opened to the public before 30th July,2002, informed Municipal authoritiy sources. A subcommitee has been formed under Sri PU Rajan, the opposition leader of the Municipal council to monitor the progress of this work. They also announced that the garbage processing plant at Moorikkovval will start functioning from the end of this month. The construction work of the proposed public park will begin on the independence day of this year and the Uppusatyagraha memorial at Uliyathu Kadavu will be completed by February,2003.

Payyanur: The 54th Korom Martyrs' day was observed with various programs at Korom. It was on 12th April 1948 the historic Korom struggle occured in which Sri Pokkan was shot dead by the MSP. This struggle is considered as a landmark in the history of Kerala's communist and peasant movements. Red Volunteer's march and rally was held at Korom. MV Jayarajan MLA, Mathayi Chacko MLA atteneded the function. N.Subrahmanya Shenoy presided over.
Payyanur: Famous astroger Payyanur CP Kunhirama Panikaar predicts civilwar in the country. He was delivering this year's Vishu Predictions to Deepika Daily. But CP finds this year in favor of Kerala. According to him there is a possibility of civil war in the country in the month of July.
