Beeda Merchant KrishnaPoduval Dies

Payyanur: Beeda Merchant KrishnaPoduval, popularly known as beeda poduval died yesterday at payyanur. KrishnaPoduval, known for his unique way of selling bombaybeeda died after taking poison. KrishnaPoduval will not be unfamiliar to any Payyannorian. No one can forget him if seen once. His songs, created for marketing his product,"beeda" dealt with many social and cultural issues. The naked facts of our daily life were expressed in ordinary language. Recently Poduval shifted into lotary ticket business as the beeda was not yielding any profit.

Payyanur College Champions

Kannur: Payyanur College won the championship in the arts festival(off-stage items) of Kannur University held at Koothuparamaba. Payyanur College obtained a total of 194 points. N.V.Prakasan, PP Sujith Kumar and Dhanya Keeperi staged excellent performances which helped Payyanur College to grab this coveted title. Prakasan secured 40 points by winning all the five itmes he participated with A grade while Sujithkumar scored 4 first prizes with A grade. Dhanya has obtained 4 prizes with A grade and got the title of "kalathilakam". The stage items will be held at Payyanur from 11th 13th of January,2002.

CM to inaugurate Gandhi Mandiram

Payyanur: Sri. AK Antony , the honourable chief minister will inaugurate the newly constructed Gandhi Mandiram at Payyanur on 4th January,2002. The Gandhi Mandiram is located behind the sub-treasury ,Payyanur. The mandiram contains a Gandhian Study Centre, Art Gallery and Conference hall. A statue of Mahatma will be erected in front of the building. The office of the Payyanur Block Congress Committee will also be functioing in this builiding.

Sthree Sakthi Award for Sreemathi

Kannur: Smt . PK Sreemathi MLA has been selected for the Sthree Sakthi Award of SeaSide, Kannur. Smt Noorunnisa, Chairperson of Kannur Municipality also has been selected for the award. The award is given for their excellence in social activities.


NCC's National Integration Camp at Payyanur

Payyanur: The national integration camp of NCC(National Cadet Corps) will be held at Payyanur from 20th to 31st December at Payyanur College. About 800 cadets are expected to attend the camp which is hosted by 32nd Kerala Batallion NCC , Payyanur. The camp is conducted in such a way that it will help the participants to have a clear outlook of various social and cultural aspects of Malabar. A marathon from Gandhi Maidan to Payyanur College will be conducted on 21st December as part of the camp.


Karivellur Martyrs' Day

Karivellur: The 55th Karivellur Martyrs day will be observed on 20th of December. The day will refresh the memories of the great fighters who shed their blood in the Karivellur struggle against the feudal system and their evils. Various functions are organised as part of the day. Volunteer march and pubic meeting will be held at Karivellur. Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the public meeting. The function is jointly conducted by both the communist parties CPI and CPI-M.
