Fire at Payyanur Town – Printing Press Engulfed:

Payyanur: A huge fire broke out at Payyanur town today morning. The Malabar Printing Press of Mr. K Chandra Mohan in front of Payyanur Co-operative Store completely destroyed in the fire. Since the fire was noticed in the early stage, the Fire Brigade could stop spreading it and which averted destruction of nearby shops. Though the fire spread to the nearby Anaswara Jewellers, immediate intervention by the Fire Brigade personnel acted timely. The cause of the fire is not known.


Souhruda Vedi Onam Celbrations At Dubai

Dubai: The Onam Celebrations of Payyanur Souhruda Vedi Dubai Chapter will be held on 26th September 2003 at Dubai. The venue of the day-long program is at Princess Hotel Auditorium, Al Qusais, Dubai. Cultural programs and Ona sadya will be the main features of the program. The function will begin at 10 am and will conclude at 5 pm.


Best Director Award For Pramod Payyanur

Payyanur: Pramod Payyanur bagged the best director award of Kollam FAS for professional dramas. The drama "Innalekalude Aakaasam" staged by KPAC brought the award to Pramod. Earlier Pramod secured the best director award of Kerala Government for the same drama.

Souhruda Vedi Abu Dhabi Celebrates Onam

Abu Dhabi: Payyanur Souhruda Vedi Abu Dhabi chapter's Onam celebrations was held at India Social Centre Auditorium, Abu Dhabi today. The function was inaugurated by Sri. Sudheer Shetty, the General Manager of UAE Exchange Centre. Usman Karapath, the President of PSV Abu Dhabi presided over. Sarvotham Shetty (President India Social Centre), Ramesh Panikkar (Gen Secretary India Social Centre), KV Gopalan (President PSV Dubai) offered felicitations. Noted businessman VK Mohammed, the managing director of Millenium Trading and Catering Co, Abu Dhabi- who was the main sponsor of the function was honoured at the function. Abdul Salam introduced the chief guest to the audience and Madhu S Nambiar presented the momento to VK Mohammed. B. Jyothilal, acting Gen Secretary of PSV Abu Dhabi welcomed the audience and Dr. Leena Najib(Ladies Wing of PSV) offered vote of thanks.

The colourful function began with the elegant arrival of "Mahabali" in the traditional costumes accompanied by drum beats and pulikkali. The floral decoration, thiruvathirakkali and music programs lead by Balakrishnan-a noted singer of Abu Dhabi added flavour to the function. The skit "Onam Ponnonam" composed by the ladies wing was also well appreciated by the audience. Cinematic dances and mimicry were also presented by children. Dr. Leena Najib, Janardanadas Kunhimangalam and PP Damodaran co-ordinated the cultural programs. The delicious sadya in the real traditional style was the main attraction of the day.

A special session on rehabilitation and investment project was held at the same venue. PP Damodaran moderated the special session. Usman Karapath inaugurated the fund raising for the rehabilitation and investement project by receiving the first donation from Rajesh KT.

Atomic Power Station at Peringome – Scientists Re-visited

Payyanur: Scientists re-visited Peringome on 16th September, 2003 in connection with the proposal to set up an Atomic Power Station at Peringome. The proposal was first came up in 1990 and was discarded temporarily because of the objection from the local public.

The Scientists visited the proposed site near the CRPF Camp as well as the proposed site for disposing the waste at Perumthatta. Though Bhoothan Kettu near Ernakulam and similar site in Kozhikode District are in the list, it is understood that preference is for Peringome while considering the availability of infrastructure necessities. The visit of the Scientists to the site again disturbed the local people and the local leaders informed that they will not allow to materialise this project.

Sharaf Arts & Science College Padanna

Payyanur: The newly sanctioned Sharaf Arts & Scince College Padanna will be inaugurated on 18th October 2003.


Vaniya Community- Achaarya Samgamam

Payyanur: The achaarya sangamam- a meeting of the representatives of 140 Muchilottu Kavus will be held at Karivellur on 25th September 2003. G.Karthikeyan, the minister for cultural affairs will inaugurate the function at Karivellur Muchilottu Kavu. Around 400 participants from various muchilottu kavus will attend the event.


Malayala Padasala To Lauch Children's Theatre At Payyanur

Kannur: The Malayala Padasala, Kannur will be starting a permanent theatre for children at Payyanur. This was informed by TP Bhaskara Poduval, the director of the institution at Kannur. The theatre will be setup in association with Soorya Krishnamoorthi and Ranga Prabhat Theatre of Thiruvananthapuram. The permanent children's theatre will be inaugurated on 14th November at Payyanur by Prof Ramanujam. The first anniversary celebration of the institution will be held at Mavilayi on 20th and 21st of September. Film Actor Nedumudi Venu will inaugurate the celebration on 20th september and Poet V Madhusoodanan Nair will preside over the function.


BHAASKARA OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP


Payyanur: Bhaaskara College of Fine Arts Kaithapram announced that they offer full scholarships to talented and economically week students to join Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Bharatanaatyam( Kalakshetra style & syllabus) and Carnatic music . Scholarship include free boarding and lodging ( dormitory) and free tuition for three years. Students registering for BFA degree course should have passed plus two or equivalent and for 3 year diploma course SSLC pass or equivalent examination .

Scholarship will be offered on the merit of the student after appearing for an interview test before an expert panel.
