Plus-2 Student Found Killed Under Mysterious Circumstances
Payyanur: Sandhya, a Plus Two Student of Perul near Mathamangalam studying at Prathibha College, Mathamangalam found killed under mysterious circumstances.
At a preliminary investigation, the police are under the impression that the cause of death is due to sexual harassment and strangulation. Since Sandhya did not return home after leaving the college at 3.00 pm on Thursday, and a thorough search by the villagers found her body at a deserted place on Friday.A dog squad from Kozhikode has already reached the scene and investigation is underway. Sandhya is the only daughter of Kannambally Vadakke Madhathil Narayanan Nambisan and Saraswathi Amma.

Prof. B.Mahmood Ahmed, Vice Chairman of Folklore Academy
Payyanur: Prof. B.Mahmood Ahmed (Payyanur College) has been appointed as the vice chairman of the Folklore Academy by the Government of Kerala. Earlier Dr.MV Vishnu Namboothiri (also from Payyanur) was appointed as the chairman of the academy.

Federation Cup Volley Ball from 3rd February
Payyanur: The National Federation Cup Volley Ball Tournament will be conducted from 3rd to 10th February, 2002 at Payyanur. The tournament will be held in the specially arranged Jimmy George Statdium at Govt. Boys HS Grounds. The profit from the tournament will be utilised for the construction of a stadium and its approach road in GBHS Grounds.
