Muchilottu Perumkaliyaattam: Kolakkaran Is Selected

Payyanur: The kolakkaran who will perfrom the theyyam of the main deity Muchilottu Bhagavathy for the Thayineri Muchilottu Bhagavathi temple perumkaliyattam has been selected. Raveendran, a native of Annur was selected for this divine task at the varachu vekkal event held at the temple yesterday. The 40 year old theyyam artist Raveendran started his vrutham at the specially arranged room at the temple premises. He will continue this upto the last day of the perumkaliyaattam on which he will perfrom the theyyam of the godess.

The perumkaiyaatam, which is being celebrated after nine years will begin on 6th February,2004 and will conclude on 9th February. An audio casette of the devotional songs of the Muchilottu Bhagavathy was released at a function held at the temple premises day before yesterday.The cassette was formally launched by the film star Suresh Gopi.

Suresh Gopi Inaugurates Congress Jatha

Payyanur: Film star Suresh Gopi inaugurated the jatha carrying the portrait of Gandhiji to the venue of Gandhi Memorial being conducted by the fourth group of Congress Party in Kerala. The Gandhi Smrithi Sangamam program will be held on 30th January,2004 at Kannur. Suresh Gopi handed over the portrait of Gandhiji to M Narayanan Kutty. KC Venugopal presided over the function held at Gandh Maidan.

Lasya Festival Begins At Pilathara

Payyanur: The Dance and Music Festival being organised by Lasya college of fine arts began at Pilathara. The festival being organsied as part of the tenth anniversary of Lasya began with a colourful procession held at Pilathara yesterday. The Head of the dept of music at Chatheesgarh University T Unnikrishnan inaugurated the festival. Dr Vasundhara Doraiswami presented an integrated dance form of Yakshagana and Bharatanatyam and students of Lasya presented various south indian dance forms.


CPM Objects Art of Living Course

Payyanur: The CPM Cheruthazham Local Committee objected and stopped the Art of Living Course of Shri Shri Ravi Sankar which was supposed to be held at Cheruthazham Varanakkode LP School.


People's Forum against Illicit Liquor

Payyanur: A people's forum under the Panchayat authorities have been formed in Kankol-Alappadamba Panchayat against illicit liquor and other intoxicating items such as Pan Masala.

In a huge rally of the common people in support of the People's Forum held at Mathil Town, it has been decided to enlighten the people about the negative impact of the use of illicit liquor as well as usage of Pan Masala. After the enlightenment period, if anyone found engaged in illicit liquor business, the People's forum will take initiative to take action against the culprit with the help of the Excise Department. Also the Panchayat authorities instructed all the shop keepers in the Panchayat not to sell Pan Masala and if found selling, their licence would be cancelled.
