PAYYANUR, CPM TO RETAIN THE DOMINANCY AND CONGRESS TO SHOW THEIR PRESENCE
As far as CPM is concerned, Payyanur is always their sure winning seat. Since inception of this constituency, Payyanur always elected CPM candidates and in fact dominated by CPM.
This time the CPM candidate is Smt. P.K. Sreemathi, who is the State Secretary of Janathipathya Mahila Association and member of CPM Central Committee. Her immediate opponent is Shri M. Narayanan Kutty, who is a KPCC Member and Shri D. Govindan is the BJP Candidate.
As far as all these 3 contestants are concerned, Payyanur is their first arena.
Smt. P.K. Sreemathi, (52) who started her political carrier with SFI and then DYFI is residing at Neruvambram near Payangadi. She is wife of the Teachers Union Leader Shri E. Damodaran Nambiar. Her only son, Sudheer is a businessman. Her parents are Shri T. Kelappan Nambiar and Smt. P.K. Meenakshi of Mayyil. She completed her Pre-degree from Batheri St. Mary’s College and then Teachers Training. She is working as a Head Teacher at Neruvambram U.P. School. However, at present she is on leave.
She is the only lady candidate of CPM contesting from Kannur District.
Shri M. Narayanan Kutty (51) who entered into politics through students union is from Kandangali, Payyanur. His parents are late Shri Kunniyoor Kesavakurup and Smt. Manjachery Adiyodi Devi Pillathiri Amma. His wife, Smt. T.V. Shobha is working as Secretary of Payyanur Co-operative Town Bank. His children are Sarath Nambiar and Varun Nambiar.
Shri Narayanan Kutty was elected as Payyanur College Union Chairman for two times. He also worked as KSU District Secretary, KSU District President, KSU State General Secretary, Youth Congress State Treasurer, DCC General Secretary etc.
Also he worked as Payyanur Co-operative Store employee as well as LIC agent. Among the District Congress members, he is known as ‘MNs’.
His house and property were destroyed during the notorious Koothuparamba incident.
Shri D. Govindan, the BJP Candidate from Payyanur is from Vengara. He is a retired Head Master from Vengara UP School. During 1976-78, he was secretary of Viswa Hindu Parishad, Kannur District.
