Governer Lays Foundation Stone For Sanskrit University

Payyanur: Kerala Governor Sikhander Bhakth laid the foundation stone for the new building of Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University's Payyanur Regional Centre. T.Govindan MP, PK Sreemathi MLA, district panchayth president OV Narayanan, district collector KS Sreenivas, TI Madhusoodanan- municipal vice chairman, Dr E Sreedharan-director of the regional centre attended the function. The new building for the university centre is being constructed at their campus near Payyanur College.


Double Crown For Motel Aaram

Payyanur: Motel Arram near Keltron Mangatuparamba has been adjudged as the best motel under KTDC. Its manager P Raghuvaran of Payyanur has been selected for the best manager award earlier. Raghuvaran received the awards from Chief Minister AK Antony at function held at Thiruvananthapuram yesterday.


KMF Area Convention

Payyanur: The Payyanur area convention of KMF- Kerala Mahila Federation- the women's wing of CMP will be held at Payyanur on 25th January. P. Balan Master, the politburo member of CMP will inaugurate the convention at Perumal Tourist Home Payyanur.


Pulingome St Joseph's Church Celebrates Jubilee

Payyanur: The jubilee celebrations of the St Joseph's Church Pulingome began yesterday. A colourful procession was held at Pulingome to mark the beginning of the jubilee celebrations of the church which was established in 1953. Various programs will be held during the month long celebration. Several Ministers, MLAs, Bishops will attend various events during the celebration.


Madathumpadi Temple Festival Begins Tomorrow

Payyanur: The pratishta dina festival of Kokkanisseri Madhathumpadi Sree Subrahmanya Swami temple will be celebrated from 22nd to 28th January,2004. Niramala, Tayambaka, Panchavadyam, Tidambu Nritham, Akshara Shlokam, Annadaanam etc will be performed on these days apart from rituals and other poojas. Various cultural programs also will be held during the festival which includes a Ganamela lead by Kanhangad Ramachandran. Annadanam for about 10,000 persons will be served on 28th January.

Chandrasekharan Vaidyar Gets Academy Award

Payyanur: Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy has honoured V Chandrasekharan Vaidyar with its award for his immense contributions to theatre art. Vaidyar a very wellknown personality in the social, political and cultural filed of Payyanur is receiving this honour while his sapthathi ( 70 years) is being celebrated. Chandrasekharan Vaidyar was born in 1930 at Azheekode as son of VP Kunhiraman Gurukkal and Paravathi Amma. He held various positions in several political, social and cultural organizations. Apart from being known as a good ayurvedic physician, Vaidyar served as district convener of the cultural wing of KPCC, president of Swami Ananda Theertha trust, founder secretary of Ayurveda Congress, founder secretary of Payyanur Vikasana Samithi, presdent of Hindi Vidya Peetam, president of “of Prohibition movement, state president of Atmavidya Sangam etc.

He has directed about 200 dramas and acted himself in many of them. He has a lot of disciples in the field of theatre art. The famous cine artist Raghavan is one among them. Payyanur Dot Com congratulates him on this occasion

K P Kunhirama Poduval Remembered

Payyanur: The 30th death anniversary day of KP Kunhirama Poduval, the freedom fighter and the famous cultural leader of Payyanur was observed today at Payyanur. K. Sudhakaran, the minister for forests inaugurated the function held at Sanjayan Vayanasala, Annur. P. Balan Master, TP Bhaskara Poduval, CK Sekharan Master,Kammara Poduval and Athayi Narayana Poduval offered memorial speeches.
