A Well in the Middle of National Highway

Payyanur: It was a rare sight for the villagers of Chiravak near Thalipparamba, a six-feet deep well in the middle of the national highway. At first there was only a small hole. Soon it began to grow into a big pit. The villagers covered it with stones in order to prevent accidents.

It was when the national highway officials removed the soil and examined it, a deep crevice was discovered underneath. On further digging they found it to be a well made in rock with steps leading to the bottom.

Elderly people of the area said there was a well in that spot and it was covered with soil when the national highway was built. The well reappeared when the soil was swept away. The corporation has started covering up the well with stones.

Municipality Starts Bypass Road Maintanance

Payyanur:Finally Payyanur municipality started the maintanance work of the totally collapsed bypass road yesterday. Buses stopped operating through this road from last friday. The long route buses operated directly through NH without touching the town and busstand. Police also didnot interfere since the condition of the road was so pathetic. The inactive attitude of the municipal council towards this condition caused high public criticism. There are very deep gutters formed between BKM junction and the NH on the bypass road. Though maintanance works are carried out frequently it didnt yield any result. In the mean time government action on the vigilanc inquiry report on the allged corruption in the bypass road construction is awaited
