Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan Death Anniversary

Payyanur:The 38th death anniversary of Pothera Krishnanezhuthachan, the scholar and astrolger of Payyanur was observed at Payyanur with variuos functions. Congress(s) president Kadannappally Ramachandran inaugurated the functions. He told that Krishanezhuthachan was one of the scholars who used astrolgoy for the masses and thus popularized this science. KK. Narayana Poduval presided over the function. Dr.KH Subrahmanyan, the registrar of Kannur university offered the main speech. Dr S Hariharan, principal of Pariyaram Medical College distributed the cash award for the students who secured top marks in Sanskrit. P.Balan Master, PU Rajan,CP Kunhirama Panikkar. PK Kunhiraman Nambiar, Pothera Narayanan Nambiar and B.Sajithlal also addressed the meeting. Pushparchana will eb performed at his memorial near government hospital tomorrow morning.

Reliance Petrochemical Plant At Cheemeni ?

Payyanur: It is reported that Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Group, will sign the agreement in the Global Investor Meet to establish a petrochemical plant at Cheemeni. During the LDF rule, Piparia group has signed an MOU with Kerala Govt to establish a petrochemical plant at Cheemeni but withdrew from it due to various reasons. In this context UDF government has approached Reliance Group with the same proposal. Our special correspondent from Thiruvananthapuram reports that the petrochemical giant Reilance has special interest in this project.


Arrangements In Progress For the VHSE State Festival

Payyanur:Arrangements for the VHSE state youth festival are nearing completion at Payyanur. The youth festival will be held at Payyanur Govt Higher Secondary School on 31st January, 1st and 2nd February. Around 1000 candidates are expected to participate in the youth festival which will be held at three different venues. The estimated expenses for the festival is about Rs.4 lakhs and will be fully funded by the govenrment.

Dialysis Facility At Pariyaram From Thursday

Payyanur: Dialysis facility will be available at Pariyaram Medical College hospital from this thursday onwards. The nephrology department will start functioning under Dr. Sathyanathan from this day and OP services will be available on all mondays and thursdays. Registration can be done on all working days. The administrative officer informed that the charge for the dialysis will be only Rs.600. Narayana Hridayalaya, a super-speciality unit for cardiolgoy will be starting soon at Pariyaram. The meeting of the board of directors sanctioned the purchase of equipments worth Rs 6 Crores for this purpose. The meeting also decided to setup an school in the medical college campus. A Daycare centre and LKG will be opened soon as the first stage.


Malayala Padasala Introduces Literary Awards

Payyanur: The Malayala Padasala , Kannur run by TP Bhaskara Poduval is going to introduce literary awards from this year. The four awards will be Chirakkal T Balakrishnan Nair memorial award for literary reserach, AK Krishnan Master memorial award for poetry, TP Sukumaran memorial award for theatre works and Kesari memorial award for story. The entries for awards in the respective fields should reach the Padasala before the end of first week of February. The padasala is conducting a workshop on Malayalam poetry on 22 and 23rd February at Kannur. D.Vinayachandran will be the camp director and Vishnunarayanan Namboothri will be the instructor. The camp will have 20 candidates. Applications for the workshop should reach the padasala on or before January 31st with two poetries attached. Bypass Road Maintanance Begins

Payyanur: The maintance work of the bypass road began yesterday. The mainatance will be carried out between BKM Junction & Sunson Junction and between LIC Junction & Perumba. The closing down of the bypass road increased the traffic block in the main road heavily causing too many problems.


Minister Visits Pavoor Kannan's House

Payyanur: MV Raghavan, the minister for co-operation visited the house of the late Pavoor Kannan, the veteran communist leader who passed away a few days back. He was accompanied by P.Balan Master, TV Gopalan, TP Sunil Kumar and B.Sajithlal
