Gandhiji's Assassins Ruling India: Karunakaran

Payyanur: Gandhiji's assassins and their supporters are now ruling India, stated senior Congress leader K.Karunakaran MP. He told that this is the time to begin another freedom struggle to free India from the hands of fundamentalists and extremists. He was inaugurating the platinum jubiliee celebrations of the All Kerala Congress Conference held at Payyanur in 1928. Karunakaran also stated that the 1928 KPCC conference was a crucial event in the journey towards the freedom and the people of Payyanur can be always proud of being the venue of that landmark conference. KP Nooruddin presided over the function. KP Kunhikannan, the Gen Secretary of KPCC welcomed the audience and VN Eriupuram offered vote of thanks. Sunny Joseph- DCC president, AD Mushafa MLA, MK Raghavan-KPCC Gen Secretary also attended the function.

K.Karunakaran was given a warm welcome by the congress workers at Gandhi Maidan. Karunakaran told the audience that he will be upholding the secular aspect of Indian National Congress util his last breath.

Kannur Varsity To Start PG Course In Music At Kaithapram

Kannur: Kannur University will soon start a centre at Kaithapram , near Payyanur which will offer MA course in Music. This was informed by Dr. PK Rajan, the vice-chancellor of the university at function held at Kannur yesterday.


Woman Killed In Road Accident

Payyanur: A 55 year old woman died at kannur in a road accident yesterday. Mrs. Vijayakumari(55) wife of Dr. TC Venugopalan, a neuro surgeon of Indira Gandhi Co-op Hospital, Thalassery was killed when the maruti car they travelled collided with a truck at Tana junction of Kannur town. Dr. Venugopalan, who is seriously injured has been hospitalized. The car has been completely crushed due to the collssion. Vijayakumari is a native of Payyanur and is the sister of noted physician Dr. K.Mohan Ramadas. The body of Vijayakumari has been moved to Pariyaram Medical College for post-mortum.

8 Year Old Student Killed In Accident

Payyanur: An 8 year old school student was killed in a road accident at Payyanur yesterday. Muhammad Shafi(8), son of MK Abdul Kareem of Pazhayangadi and a student of BEMLP School died after being hit by a tempo van at Perumba. A speeding tempovan hit the boy who was on his way to the madrasa,while overtaking a bus. The boy was rushed to BKM Hospital and later to Pariyaram Medical College where he died.

Demand For Bus Service To Medical College

Payyanur: The management of Pariyaram Medical College appealed to the Transport Authorities to sanction bus routes from various locations of the district to the Medical College . There are hundreds of patients from different parts of Kannur, Kasargode and Waynad districts visiting the medical college but the transport facilties from these areas are comparatively poor. The college authorities submitted a memorandum to the transport authorities citing suitable bus routes connecting important locations like Kannur, Payyanur, Taliparamba etc via Ezhom, Mattool, Perumbadavu, Mathamangalam, Ramanthali, Trikaripur, Parassinikadavu, Mayyil etc.

College Union Election: SFI At Payyanur College & KSU At Madayi

Payyanur: SFI won the Payyanur College Union election held last day. SFI won 8 major seats while KSU got only 2. The elected candidates are Jayesh KP(Chairman), Dhanya Keeperi (vice chairman), Ranjith T (Gen Secretary), K Biji and K .Shyju (UUCs), Ragesh (Fine arts sec) and Prakasan(editor)- all SFI. The elected KSU candiates are P.Sandhya (jt secretary) and P.Satheesan(Gen Captain).

In Madayi College KSU got seven seats while SFI won only one. The elected KSU candidates are Jineesh KV(chairman), Bhavya K(vice chairman), Sujith (Gen Sec), Shalini(Jt sec), Sameer (finearts sec), Rajeesh TV (editor) and Noushad M (UUC). The only SFI candidate won the election is Shafeeq PV (Gen Captain).
