Grand Send-Off To BalanMaster

Madayi: A grand send-off was given to Shri.P.Balan Master, HeadMaster of BEMLPS Madayi who is retiring from his service. Shri.MV Raghavan, minister for co-operation inaugurated the send-off ceremony held at the school premises in Madayi. Sri.P.Appukuttan Master (former secretary of Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy),Sri. MK Raghvan (Gen Secretary KPCC),Sri.Abdul Khadar Moulavi (Dist president of IUML),Sri Muhammad Ali (Madayi Panchayath president) addressed the function. Various cultural programs performed by the students were also staged. Sri.TK Balan MLA will inaugurate the anniversary of the school today evening.


Cardiology Centre At Pariyaram: Agreement Signed

Payyanur: The agreement between Pariyaram Medical College and Narayana Hridayala,Bangalore to setup a cardiology centre in Pariyaram campus has been signed yesterday at Pariyaram. Sri.P.Narayanan Nambira, MD of Pariyaram Medical College and Dr. Devi Shetty, MD of Narayana Hridayala signed the agreement in the presence of MV Raghavan, the minister for co-operation,K.Sudhakaran,minister for forests and NA Muhammad(all directors of Medical College).

An area of 5000 sq.meters has been given for setting up the cardilogy centre,which is known as "Sahakarana Hridayalaya" in the pariyaram campus. The duration of the agreement will be for three years and can be renewed. The basic infrastructre will be provided by the MedicalCollege. The cardiology experts will decide the treatements from Bangalore for the patients through telemedicine technolgy. The rate of heart diseases is increasing too much in India, said Dr. Devi Shetty at the function. He told an average of 300 children are born per day in Indian with heart disorders.

Shri P. Balan Master Retiring:

Payyanur: Shri P. Balan Master, the Head Master of Mdayi BEMLP School and noted political figure of Payyanur is retiring from his official services today after 34 years of remarkable activities.

Shri Balan Master is the National Executive Member of CMP. The send off ceremony will be inaugurated by Shri M.V. Raghavan at 6.00 pm tomorrow.

Shri P. Balan Master started his career as a teacher at BEMLP School, Thaliparamba during 1968. Later on, he worked as a teacher at Payyanur BEMLP School for 28 years. He took active participation in forming the teachers union, KPTU. He had undergone jail imprisonment for participating the NGO Teachers’ Strike during 1978. He was also State President of SETF, the teachers’ and employees union wing of CMP.

Being an excellent organiser in the Co-operative Sector, Shri Balan Master was the President of Kannur District Co-operative Bank for 4 years. He also worked as Kannur District Secretary of CMP for 4 years. He was one of the founder directors of Pariyaram Medical College. He served as the direcotr of Circle Co-operative Union ,Raidco and was the vice president of Payyanur Co-operative Rural Bank . Presently he is working as the founder President of the newly established Payyanur Co-operative Urban Bank.

While associating with CPM, he worked in forefront as an organiser of Deshabhimani Study Circle, Purogamana Kala Sahithya Sangham etc. He was reporter of Desabhimani Newspaper at Payyanur for 16 years. He was the convenor of LDF Payyanur Mandalam Committee till 1987. He contested from Taliparamba Assembly constituency during 1989 as a UDF candidate.

Wife: Vellur GMUP School Head Teacher, K.V. Rugmini, Chidren: Jyothilal, Sajithlal and Anupama.

Shri P. Appukuttan Master will be the main orator in the send off ceremony. Shri P.O.P. Mohammed Ali, the President of Madayi Panchayat will be the Chairperson for the send off ceremony.


Cardiology Unit In Pariyaram Medical College

Payyanur: A Cardiology Unit will be opened at Pariyaram Medical College soon. This unit known as "Sahakarana Hridayalaya" will be run in association with Narayana Hridayalaya , Bangalore. The agreement between Pariyaram Medical College and Narayana Hridyalaya will be signed at Pariyaram tomorrow at 4:30 PM. Sri. MV Raghavan-minister for Co-operation, Sri.K.Sudhakaran-minister for Forests, NA Muhammad(all three directors of Medical College) and Dr.Devi Shetty, MD of Narayana Hridayalaya will attend the function.

Art Festival By Sarga

Payyanur: Sarga Film Soceity,Payyanur is conducting a one-year long Art festival called "sargolsavam". An international film festival,peformance of ritual arts like koodiyattam,instrumental concerts of Kerala,music,theatre art also will be held during the festival which will commence from May 2002. Debates and Seminars on the related topics also will be conducted. Entries are invited for selecting the logo and poster for the fest.


Poorakkali Competition

Kasargode: A poorakkali competition will be conducted at Mavungal on 27,28 April,2002. Major teams from Kannur and Kasargode districts are expected to participate in the competition. Marathukali between famous "panikkars" will also be held during the programme. A seminar on Poorakkali will be conducted along with the competion. The program is jointly conducted by Poorakkali Kalaparishad and Ramanagaram Sreerama Temple.


Retiring Teachers From Payyanur

Payyanur: A lot of Head Masters and Headmistresses of various schools in and around Payyanur are retiring from service this month. Sister Otavia, the Head Mistress of St.Mary's GHS Kokkanisseri, Sri. PM Unnikrishnan Adiyodi-Principal of Municipal HSS, Kandangali, Smt. K.Nalini-Head Mistress GGHS Payyanur,Smt KV Rugmini- Head Mistress GMLPS Vellur,Smt PV Sujatha Devi-Head Mistress GLPS Payyanur are a few among them.

Prof B Muhammad Ahmed(HOD of Malayalam Dept Payyanur College & the vice chairman of Kerala Folklore Academy), Sri. P.Balan Master, (CMP Leader and HM BEMLPS Madayi) are also retiring from their official services.

Rehabilitation Centre For Disabled At Payyanur

Payyanur: A rehabilitation centre for the disabled people will be open at Payyanur today. Sri. Raju Narayanaswami IAS will formally inaugurate the Malabar Rehabilitation Centre For Disabled Charitable Trust at a function being held at Payyanur. Smt S.Jyothi will inaugurate the free medical camp for the deaf children at the centre. An institution called "School For The Dumb Children" will be inaugurated by G.Jayanandan. Dr.K.Mohan Ramdas will preside over the function. Dr. K.Mohan Ramadas, TK Santhosh, Dr. VC Raveendran, P.Karunakaran, KPC Abdul Khader and K.Krishnan are the minds behind this noble project.


Pulingome Makham Uroos From 4th April

Payyanur: The famous Pulingome Makham Uroos will begin on 4th April 2002. It is beleived that the shuhadas here are the people who came from Arabia along with Malik Bin Dinar . The uroos will be held for 5 days. Special bus services will be operated from Payyanur and Thaliparamaba both by KSRTC and private sector.

Unnikrishnan Adiyodi Retired

Payyanur: Sri. PM Unnikrishnan Adiyodi, the principal of Payyanur Municipal Higher Secondray HS, Kandangali retired from his service yesterday. Sri. Adiyodi was honoured with the Best Teacher award by the Govt. of Kerala in 1999. He also served as the distrrict co-ordinator of the literacy mission.


Centenary Celebrations Of Vellur GLPS

Payyanur: Vellur Govt LPS is celbrating its 100th anniversary. The celebrations are jointly conducted by GLPS and Govt Higher Secondary HS. Smt. PK Sreemathi MLA inaugurated the celbrations and Smt S.Jyothi presided over the function.

Admission To Ezhimala Academy In 2005 : Fernandez

Payyanur: Admission for the cadets to the Ezhimala Naval Academy will begin in 2005, declared Sri. George Fernandez, the Union defence minister. He was speaking to the press after laying the foundation stone for the second phase of construction works for the academy at Ezhimala today. The minister told that the infrastructure of the academy will be fully finished by the end of 2004. The estimated cost of this project was Rs.170 Crores but actual expenses will be around Rs.500 Crores, said the minister. A "bhoomi pooja" and "ganapathi homa" was performed at the worksite by Sri. Tharananalloor Thekkiniyedath Padmanabhan Namboothiripad prior to the laying of the foundation stone.


VMB Poduval Retires From Service

Payyanur: Sri. VM Balakrishna Poduval, the Deputy General Manger of BSNL( Kannur District) is retiring today after 38 years of honourable service. Sri VMB Poduval who hails from Annur village in Payyanur has played a vital role in the development of the telecommunication network in Kannur and Kasargode District. He has also worked in Chennai and Mumbai during this 38 yeras service. Apart from working in India, he also worked in Mourisius and Yemen on deputation. He is also the president of Central Govt Employees Welfare Association, president of District Amateur Athletic Associaton and the secretary of the Officers' Club.
