Payyanur: The eigth death anniversary of the Youth Congress leader late KP Sajithlal was observed at Payyanur today. Sajithlal, the energetic leader of KSU and Youth Congress was killed in a bomb attack by the CPI-M activists at Payyanur town eight years ago. Adv. Sunny Joseph, the DCC president inaugurated the function held at Sajithlal Memorial near Moorikkovval. VN Eripuram presided over the function and various congress leaders attended.

Payyanur: The Sree Narayana Guru Engineering College, Payyanur has got the recognition of All India Council for Technical Education. The college will offer B.Tech courses in Mechanical Engg, Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics and Computer Engineering. Each branch will have 60 seats. Sree Bhakti Samvardhini Yogam of the Talap Sundareshwara Temple of Kannur manages this self-financing college.
The college is setup in a 45-acre landscape at Korom near Payyanur. The management claims that all the buildings, laboratories and reference library are already functional and temporary hostel facilities are also arranged. Prof PV Sugathan is the principal of the college. He is the former dean of PG Studies of Thiruvananthapuram Engg College, chairman of board of studies of Kannur Varsity, former principal of LBS Engg College Kasargode etc.

Payyanur: Due to heavy rain, various areas of Payyanur and surroundings are submerged in flooded water. About 60 families of Uliyath Kadav and Thayineri harijan colonies are under the threat of heavy flood. Kavvayi River, Perumba River and Narangathode etc. are over flooded.
Action has already been taken to rehabilitate the affected people. Rehabilitation centers were set up at Keloth UP School and a rented house at Thayineri Palli Haji road. The rehabilitation activities are being carried out under the leadership of the Payyanur Village Officer and Municipal Councillors. Six families of Chittarikovval were rehabilitated due to the over flooding of Perumba River. Also two families of Vellur Kuttiyol area were rehabilitated.
Transport facility was disrupted to hill areas due to over flooding at Mathamangalam.

Payyanur: In a horrible accident near Vilayankode, Shri Mohammed Hashim (21) was killed. The accident happened on Saturday afternoon. Shri Hashim was proceeding to Pilathara from Pattuvam near Thalipparamba. He was hit by a bus (E.K Deluxe) bound towards Kannur about 200 meters away from Vilayankode Bus Stop. The fuel tank of the bike was burst and caught fire.
Shri Hashim succumbed to his burn injuries on his way to hospital. Shri Hashim is the owner of Shimas STD Booth at Pilathara.
