Payyanur: A free-surgery camp will be conducted at Pariyaram Medical College for the disease of cataract(thimiram). The detection of the disease will be done on 9th March at Medical College hosptial. Interested patients should reach the hospital on the same day at 9 am and advanced registration is not required. Surgery will be done for the selected patients in April 2003 free of charge.
Payyanur:Kadannapplli Ramchandran, the president of Congress(S) demanded judicial inquiry into the Muthanga incident. He was addressing a reception-meeting at organised at Payyanur Gandhi Maidan for the Save Swaraj Yatra being organised by his party. Athayi Narayana Poduval presided over the meeting. Several Congress(S) leaders addressed the meeting.
Payyanur:The perumkaliyattam festival of Padoli Bhagavathi temple will be celebrated from 3rd to 6th March 2003. The festival is being celebrated after a long period of 24 years. The renovation works of the temple was completed recently. Variuos cultural programs are also arranged during the perumkaliyattam.
Payyanur:The Sree Narayan Medical Complex at Mathamangalam will be inaugurated by Vellappalli Nadesan, the gen secretary of SNDP Yogam on 3rd March. The hospital is run by Sree Narayana Charitable Trust. In the beginning it will have 10 beds for inpatients, pharmacy, x-ray etc.
Payyanur:The Abu Dhabi chapter of Payyanur Souhruda Vedi conducted its first family gettogether named as Eid Milan at AbuDhabi yesterday.The colourful program was held at Arab-Udupi restaurant partyhall. VTV Damodaran-genral secretary of PSV welcomed the audience. Usman Karapth-president of PSV inaugurated the function. Madhu .S. Nambiar-vice president of PSV presided over. Ashraf delivered a speech on the significance of Eid. Bhaskaran Nair-vice president of PSV Dubai, Ramesh Payyanur-gen secretary of PSV Dubai and TP Gangadharan-Mathrubhumi correspondent of AbuDhabi offered felicitations. Abdul Salam offered vote of thanks.
Famous magician Prof. Padmaraj of Payyanur was honoured at the function. P.Gopinath presented the momento to Padmaraj. Various cultural programs were performed by members and their children. A quiz on Payyanur was conducted in which all the attendees participated. The main attraction of the program was a superb magic show by Prof. Padmaraj followed by mimicry by Ramesh Payyanur

Payyanur:The Kerala Folklore Academy announced its fellowships and awards of this year. Two Payyanurians are there among the 20 award winners. PP Narayanan Gurukkal,a native of Thayineri near Payyanur has been selected for the award for his contributions in the filed of kalaripayattu and kalari treatment. He is the president of Kerala state Kolkali Kala Samithi and Kannur district kalaripayattu association.
The Academy award is presented to KU Ramapoduval for his contributions in the filed of Kolkali. Ramapoduval, a master in the art of kolkali has a very large number of disciples in this art. He was awarded with Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy Fellowship a few years back. Rama Poduval is the father of VTV Damodaran, general secretary of the Abu Dhabi chapter of Payyanur Souhruda Vedi, the global unity of Payyanurians.
The awards were announced by MV Vishnu Namboothiri, chairman of Folklore academy and Suresh Babu Elayavoor, secretary of the academy at a press conference held at Kannur press club yesterday.

Payyanur:The state conference of KSKTU concluded at Payyanur with a massive rally and public meeting. A.Vijayaraghavan, B.Raghavan, A.Kanaran etc lead the rally in which hundreds of workers participated exhibiting the strength of the organisation. Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the public meeting held at Govt High School Stadium.
