Chiranthana Award For Muhammad Ahmed

Payyanur: The Chiranthana Award for this year will be awarded to Prof Muhammed Ahmed, the vice chairman of Kerala Folklore Academy. The award constitued by Chiranathan Cultural Association of Dubai is given to him for his noted works in various fields. The award consists of momento and Rs.11,111.


Fed Cup Volley: Rs 5 Lakhs For Stadium

Payyanur: The organising committee of the Federation Cup Volleyball tournament which was held at Payyanur in last February has decided to donate Rs 5 lakhs for the development of the stadium being constructed at Govt Boys HS Grounds out of its profit. T.Govindan MP will handover the money to S.Jyothi, Municipal Chairpreson at a function at Payyanur today evening.


New Telephone Exchg At Udumbumthala

Payyanur: A new telephone exchange will be commissioned at Udumbumthala near Payyanur this month. The new exchange will have a capacity of 1500 lines. This was informed by Ananthram, the general manager of BSNL at a press meet at Kannur.


Tourism Devp of Payyanur: Collector Visits Spots

Payyanur: District Collector M.Anirudhan visited Uliyathu Kadavu and Perumba to assess the possiblities of tourism development of this spots. The inspection is followed by the recommendations of the seminar held at Payyanur on the tourism possibilities of the district. The seminar recommended to uplift Uliyathu Kadavu as a major tourist spot and also suggested a boat jetty at Perumba for conducting boat services in the Perumba river for the tourists.

Sunni Marcus Sandesa Yatra

Payyanur: The Sandesa Yatra conducted by SYS will be held on 22nd January 2002. The Yatra is being organised in connection with the silver jubillee celebrations of the Sunni Marcus. The Yatra will begin from Payyanur at 9 am and will end at Iritty in the evening. The yatra will be received at 12 different centres of the district.


Public Hails Traffic Reforms

Payyanur:The traffic reforms brought into effect in Payyanur town got a warm appreciation from all walks of life. The regulations are most helpful for the pedestrians. Dividers has been installed on the main road near the busstand and the fencing on the footpath have reduced traffic blocks to a limit. The dividers control the overspeeding of the buses entering into the busstand and also facilitates easy and quick crossing of the main road for the pedestrians.


Karivellur Muchilottu Perumkaliyattam

Payyanur: The perumkaliyattam festival of Karivellur Muchilottu Bhagavathi temple will be held from 7th to 12th January,2003. The Karivellur muchilottu kavu is considered as the 'adi muchilottu'. The festival will be celebrated with variuous cultural and social events. The perumkaliyattam is being celebrated after 14 years. An organising committee has been formed to conduct the festival.

DSF Payyanur Area Committee

Payyanur: Democratic Students Federation, the student wing of CMP elected its new area committee at the area convention held at Payyanur. P;Balan Master, CMP central executive member, inaugurated the convention. KV Jayakrishnan, TP Sunilkumar also addressed the convention. The new area committee has Sajesh VV (president),Priyesh TV (vice president),Jayan A (secretary),Shyamkumar KK, Maneesha KP (jt secretaries) and Jayakrishnan C(treasurer).
