End For The Crusade Against Injustice

Payyanur: The demise of Nawab Rajendran brings an end to a crusade against injustices of the soceity. Rajendran, who led a one-man army against the evils of the soceity died at Thiruvananthpuram yesterday. TA Rajendran, popularly known as Nawab Rajendran son of Smt. T.A. Bhargavi Amma and Sri.Kunhirama Poduval who was a freedom fighter andjournalist; born in 1950 at Payyanur. Rajendran rose to prominence during the seventies, by publishing a newspaper 'Nawab' which broke stories on corrupt deals and took up other social issues. However, the paper and its editor faced the wrath of the high and mighty and 'Nawab' had to stop its publication eventually. Rajendran was arrested and assaulted by the police on many occasions. Nawab Rajendran is a recipient of several awards and recognition. His life and mission also inspired a Malayalam film titled Vakkalathu Narayanankutty


Cremation Against Court Verdict – 40 Arrested:

Payyanur: About Forty people were arrested and case registered against 300 for cremating the dead body of Shri Kaliyandhil Appu Poduval, who died today morning, at Cherikkallu Cremation Centre near Mahadeva Gramam.

The Court issued verdict against cremation of dead body at this Cremation Centre pending writ petition filed by Shri A.U. Raghava Poduval. Those who were arrested are Shri K.K. Kumar, K.P. Ramesan, Shri K.U. Mani, Shri A. Damodaran, Shri K.U. Suneed, Shri T.A. Raju, Shri T.A. Santhosh, Shri A. U. Muraleedharan, Shri K. Vinod Kumar, Shri B.P. Sibiraj etc. The accused claim that the Cherikkallu Cremation Centre is being used by the Poduval Community since last 30 years.


Building Constructed by Spending Lakhs is Getting Dilapidated:

Payyanur: The building constructed for Water Authority Section Office at Payyanur by spending lakhs of rupees is being neglected unused. The building constructed by Water Authority behind Payyanur Sub Registrar Office and CI Office is in a dilapidated condition without proper maintenance. Interestingly, the Section Office of Water Authority is working in a rented property.

All India Folklore Conference At Payyanur

Payyanur: Folklore Soceity of South India Languages (FOSSILS) in association with Kannur University is conducting the All India Folklore Conference at Payyanur. The confernce will be held on 19-21 December,2003. To participate in the confernce, interested persons should contact the Public Relations Officer of Kannur University and register their names with him in advance.

Approval For The Construction of Over Bridge

Payyanur: It is reported that the construction of Railway over bridge at Kotty has been approved by the government. The tenders will be invited for the construction works within six months- informed Mohammed Haneesh, the general manager of Roads & Bridges Development Corporation (RBDC)at Kozhikode yesterday. The construction of railway over bridges at Neeleshwaram, Bekal and Cheruvathoor are also approved by RBDC.
