Driver Dies In Bus Accident: Mother Also Dies Hearing The News

Payyanur:A bus driver was killed in a road accident when two buses collided at Ponnampara near Peringome. Bus driver Majeed (45) died at Pariyaram Medical College. His mother Salmath(65) died at their home which only a couple of kilometers away from the accident spot,immediatly after hearing the shocking news of her son's death. One bus was proceeding to Kozhichal from Payyanur and the other from Pulingome to Payyanur. About 50 passengers are injured in the accident and are admitted to various hospitals at Payyanur. Ten seriously injured were admitted to Pariyaram Medical College.


BA Courses In Fine Arts at Bhaaskara

Payyanur: BA degree courses will be offered in Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Music at Bhaaskara, Kaithapram. The courses will be affiliated to Kannur University. The universtiy syndicate has already recommended approval of the courses. The courses will begin from the month of June, this year. MA in Music is already offered at Bhaaskara.

Best Director Award For Pramod Payyanur

Thiruvananthapuram: G.Karthikeyan, the minister for cultural affairs announced the kerala state professional theatre awards for the year 2002 at Thiruvananthapuram today. Pramod Payyanur has been selected as the best director. He was selected for this title for his drama Innalekalile Aakaasam staged by KPAC. This drama also bagged the award for the best drama. Pramod Payyanur is the program executive of Kairali TV.


Municipality Bye Election: UDF Wins

Payyanur: UDF has retained the Ward number 25 (Punchakkad) of Payyanur Municipality. Pilakkal Ashokan of Congress (I) won the seat by defeating his nearest rival Adv P Rajesh of CPI-M by a margin of 12 votes. The bye election was held yesterday. The bye election was required due to the resignation of Byju Noyal (congress).

Pariyaram Medical College Sets Up Advanced Cardiac Care Centre

Payyanur: A full-fledged cardiac centre will come up in the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital raising hopes of a cheaper alternative for heart patients of Kerala. The Rs 120 million project set up jointly by the Kerala State Cooperative Hospital complex, Centre for Advanced Medical Services Ltd and the Bangalore-based Narayana Hridayalaya, would be inaugurated by Chief Minister A K Antony on June 8. While the Pariyaram Medical College hospital will provide the required infrastructure facility to run the cardiac unit, christened as 'Sahakarana Hridayalaya', the Narayana Hridayalaya will be responsible for making available services of 30 cardiologists along with 100-odd nurses specialised in the treatment Raghavan claimed the cardiac centre would provide treatment at half the cost compared to the treatment provided by other medical centres in the country. The hospital has a 150-bed unit with round the clock service for giving specialised treatment for heart patients.


Syndicate Recommends 10 more Colleges

Payyanur:The Kannur Universtiy Syndicate meeting recommended 10 more arts and science colleges under it. The syndicate meeting forwarded the applications to the favour of state government. The colleges under Padanna Kismath Association and Kaithapram Heritage India foundation are among these 10 colleges.


C.Janardanan, Chamber President

Payyanur:C.Janardanan has been elected as the president of the Payyanur Chamber of Commerce. He defeated his nearest rival and the present president V.Davood Haji in a tight competition for 46 votes. President nominated TP Muhammad Kunhi as the general secretary and V.Nandakumar as treasurer.
