32 Employees of FCI are being Terminated:

Payyanur: Thirty Two employees from the Payyanur Depot of the Food Corporation India are being terminated. All these 32 employees are working at the Depot for the last one and half years as contract labourers. The employees said that the termination announcement came without any prior notice.

Youth Caught While Stealing:

Payyanur: A youth, who was trying to steal a maxi from a ready made shop during the rush hours was caught red handed and handled by the public. The incident happened at a ready made shop near co-operative bank. He was taken to the police and since there was no written complaint, the police released him later on.

Income Tax Raid:

Payyanur: Income Tax Authorities raided a private hospital near the Bus Stand. The raid wad conducted by 15 officials and ended till late night.

Payyanur Co-Op Stores Receives Trophy

Payyanur: Payyanur Co-op Stores has been selected as the best co-operative for their performance in conducting Onam fair in 2002. Co-op Stores president, T.Narayanan Nair will receive the trophy from MV Raghvan, the minister for co-operation on 30th August at Kollam.

KSRTC To Start Payyanur-Kozhikode TT Service

Payyanur: KSRTC will be launching a town-to-town bus service from Payyanur to Kozhikode. It is reporterd that there will be 10 schedules per day. Though the orders have been issued by the managment, Payyanur bus depot is still waiting for the required buses for the schedule. This new service is being launched following the ceasation of Kannur-Thrissur town-to-town service since it is of heavy loss. KSRTC informed that the Payyanur-Kozhikode service is being lauched on experimental basis. Payyanur-Kannur route is one of the best profit making routes of KSRTC in the region.


Found Dead in Water Pond:

Payyanur: Shri Kuthur Manoharan (36) was found dead in the Water Pond of Kunnathur Mana at Kandangali. The deceased left behind a widow Preetha, daughter Archana and son Abhishek. Shri Manoharan is son of late Shri Narayanan and Smt. Lakshmi.


New English Medium School At Payyanur

Payyanur: A new english medium school will start functioning at Payyanur from the next academic year. The new school named as The Mother School is being run by Progressive Educational Trust - a charitable trust formed by a group of NRIs. The school is located at Vaippiriyam (Kankol-Alapadamba Panchayath) on the Payyanur-Cherupuzha road. LKG, UKG, Classes I and II will be commenced in June 2004 and one class each will added every year. The school will be following CBSE syllabus while special attention will be given to Malayalam - informed the organisers at a press meet conducted at Payyanur. The chief promoter of the school is Sukumaran Kallath - a non resident Payyanurian from Baharain. Mr Sukumaran is the co-ordinator of payyanur dot com as well as the general secretary of Payyanur Souhruda Vedi Baharain chapter.

Government Servants Should Contain Social Obligations

Payyanur: Government Servants should contain social obligations and work for the betterment of the society as a whole. Without social obligations and sincere service oriented attitude, we cannot at all expect any social developments as per Shri K.P. Kunhikannan, the KPCC General Secretary. Shri K.P. Kunhikannan was speaking on the occasion of the commendation ceremony for Shri T.V. Raghavan who got the Best Postman Award.


Illicit Liquor Centre Destroyed at Kunhimangalam:

Payyanur: An illicit liquor centre, inside the ‘Kandal Kadu’ was destroyed at Kunhimangalam by the Police. It was functioning at the ‘Kandal Kadu’ near the ‘Puthiya Puzha’ Prawns breeding centre. The raid was conducted under the supervision of Payyanur SI M.V. Sukumaran. 3000 liters of Wash and 5 liters of illicit liquor were destroyed. Police charged case against Thaliyil Preman and Shaji who were running the business.


Payyanur Troop Bags Second Prize

Payyanur: The Surasu Nataka Vedi of Payyanur bagged the second prize in the Kerala State Amateur Drama competition held at Thrissur. The drama "Phoolan" staged by the Surasu Natakavedi reached second while the drama "Uratti" staged by Neru Nataka Vedi of Waynad bagged the first prize.

Payyanur: The Principal of Sree Narayanaguru College of Engineering and Technology, Kankol near Payyanur announced that the first batch of B. Tech Classes will be started at from 1st September, 2003.

Payyanur Govt Hospital Gets UNICEF Recognition

Payyanur: Payyanur Govt Hospital has been upgraded to the status of first referal unit (FRU). UNICEF already issued notification in this regard. Modern facilities will be setup here with special attention for mother and child care. It is reported that the hosptial will have experinced doctors and support staff who can handle any ciritical situations during the delivery cases. Payyanur GH is the fifth hospital gaining this status.
