Expansion of Telephone Exchanges

Payyanur: BSNL has announced expansion programs for various telephone exchanges in the district. The capacity of Peringome Exchange will be upgraded from 520 to 1000 lines and a new 2 X 256 PC Dot Exchange will be installed at Kakkara.

Karivellur Panchayath Keralotsavam

Payyanur: Karivellur Panchayath Keralotsavam will be held on 14th and 17th of November, 2001. The arts competitions will be conducted at Kozhummal on 17th and the sport events will be at Karivellur AVSGHS on 14th November.


Bharateeya Vichara Kendram Conference at Payyanur

Payyanur: The Kannur District Annual Conference of Bharateeya Vichara Kendram will be held at Payyanur on 11th November, 2001. Sri. P.Parameshwaran, the director of the kendram and Dr. K.Madhavan Kutty, the state president of the organisation will participate in the conference.

Payyanur Sub Dist School Youth Fest

Payyanur: Payyanur educational sub district school youth festival will be held on 13th, 14th and 15th of November at Payyanur. Sanskrtotsavam and Arabic Kalotsavam also will be conducted along with this. The offstage items will be held on 9th and 12th November. The festival will be conducted on eight different venues arranged at GBHS, GGHS and BEMPLPS . About 2000 studetns are expected to participate in the fest. Sri. T.Govindan MP will inaugurate the festival o 13th evening while Smt PK Sreemathi MLA will inaugurate the closing ceremony on 15th evening.


Salary Increase should be Conceded:

Payyanur: The Shop and Establishment Employees Union (CITU), Payyanur Area Committee has demanded a 30% increase in basic salary as well as DA increase for the Hotel and Shop workers. They also demanded that the working hours should be fixed to 8 hours.

The Kankol-Alappadamba Panchayat Keralotsavam will be held from 8th to 17th November, 2001.

The Ramanthali Panchayat Keralotsavam will be held from 6th to 16th November, 2001.


NEGLIGENT DRIVING, DRIVERS ARRESTED:

Two people have been arrested for negligent driving by Payyanur Police. The arrested were Shri Ashkar of Kadannappally and Shri K. Anilkumar of Kandoth.

MOTOR ACCIDENT

Shri Alakkattu Krishnan (42) was admitted in Unity Hospital at Mangalore with major injuries. He was hit by a car near Vellur Cooperative Bank.

REGISTRATION ON NOVEMBER, 9TH

The General Convener, Shri A.V. Narayanan said that the Sub-district Youth Festival and Child Festival registration will start on 9th Novembr, 2001 from 09.00 am onwards.

CPI Mandalam Conference

Payyanur: The Payyanur Mandalam Conference of Communist Party of India will be held at Karivellur on 10th and 11th November 2001. Sri. E.Chandrasekharan, the state executive committee member of the party, will inaugurate the public meeting held at Onakkunnu on 10th November.

Payyanur: About 800 litres of wash and 20 liters of illicit liquor were seized in the Excise raid at Ramanthali , Kunnaru and surrounding places.

Seshan & Karthikeyan Visit Bhaskara

Payyanur: Sri TN Seshan, former Election Commissioner, visited Bhaskara, the school of Arts at Kaithapram. It was he who had laid the foundation stone for this prestigious institution a couple of years back. Sri. G. Karthikeyan, minister for Cultural Affairs also visited Bhaskara. Sri KC Venugopal MLA accompanied the minister.

Mathrubhumi Study Circle: Dist Camp at Payyanur

Payyanur: The Kannur district level leadership orientation camp of Mathrubhumi Study Circle will be held at Payyanur on 29th and 30th of December, 2001.


Minister Inaugurates the Maveli Store

Kunhimangalam: Sri. G. Karthikeyan, the minister for Civil Supplies, inaugurated the new Maveli Store at Aandamkovval, Kunhimangalam. Smt. PK Sreemathi MLA presided over the function.

Attack on KSRTC Bus Depot, The Accused Have Been Remanded

The Payyanur Judicial First Class Magistrate remanded the 6 people who were arrested in connection with the attack on the KSRTC Bus Depot at Perumba for two weeks. The case is against 30 people. The attackers were the participants of the INFARM RALLY which was held at Kannur on Thursday.

Illicit Liquor Uneathed

The Payyanur Police unearthed 100 bags of Illicit Liquor which was being transported by Train from Karnataka. However, the convicted felon was escaped.

New Plan for Mosquito Eradication

The Health Department Standing Committee Chairman Mr. K.P. Babu said that to find permanent solution to the grave problem of mosquito, the Payyanur Municipality has established a separate fund under the “Janakeeyasutrana Paddathi”.

He said that non-availability of sufficient employees in the cleaning section is one of the main reasons for the present day problem.

Rigorous Imprisonment for Six in Ragging Case

Payyanur: The Payyanur Judicial First Class Magistrate sentenced six former students of Payyanur College for ragging a student of the same college. Jyothidas(payyanur),PV Jitesh (Ramanthali),K Suneesh (Vengara), P.Lajesh (Pappiniseri), Abhilash K (Thayineri) and K.Prasanth (Kanhangad) are the six people accused in the case who have to undergo rigorous imprisonment. Police registered the case against the accused for ragging a student,T. Ravikrishnan (kannpuram) in August 1994.

Jaycees Zone Conference

Payyanur: Sri. T.N.Seshan, the former Chief Election Commissioner inaugurated the Zone conferenece of Junior Chamber (Jaycees) at Payyanur. Payyanur is hosting the zone conference of Jaycees for the first time.
