Payyanur: The Federation Cup National Volleyball tournament will begin at Jimmy George Floodlit stadium at Govt Boys HS Grounds tomorrow. Sri K.Sudhakaran, minister for forests and sport affairs will inaugurate the tournament and Sri.T.Govindan MP will preside over the function.
Payyanur: Pariyaram Medical College may get the IMC approval this week itself. It is reported that the Medical Council has given a report to the Supreme Court favouring the Pariyaram Medical College.
Payyanur: The OP fees of Pariyaram Medical College has been reduced to Rs.10/- from Rs.30/-and its validity will be 10 days. The OP fee for super-speciality clinic will remain Rs.50/-. A heart disease detection camp will be held in March in association with Dr.DeviShetty's Narayana Hridayalaya, Bangalore. Also free medical camps will be conducted at various places of Kannur district in this month. Dr.VV Mohana Chandran has assumed the charge of Director-in-charge in the vaccancy of Dr. PK Gangadharan Nair, who has resigned from the post.
Payyanur: The festival of Sree Raghavapuram Temple (Hanumarambalam) Cherutazham will begin on 3rd February. The main deity of the temple is Lord Sreeraman with Seetha and Lakshmana. But the temple is known after Lord Hanuman, the devotee of Lord Sreeraman. The "seeveli" with 4 elephants and the "thidambu"dance performed by 4 artistes simultaneously are the main attractions of the festival. The festival will end on 10th Feb. Various cultural programmes are also arranged.

Payyanur: The festival of Padiyotuchal Ayyappa temple will be held from 10th to 14th February. Various cultural programmes will be also conducted during the festival.
Payyanur: Sri. VS Achutanandan will inaugurate the CPM seminar at Gandhimaidan today at 4pm. The seminar is conducted as part of the CPM State Conference which will be held at Kannur this month. PK Sreemathi MLA, C.Josephine, MK Premajam MP and EK Narayanan will participate in the seminar.

Payyanur: Sri. K.Sudhakaran, minister for forests will formally inaugurate the labour welfare scheme for the head load workers nur on 3rd February at Payyanur. Smt. PK Sreemathi MLA will preside over the function. The scheme will be implemented in the municipal area from 4th Feb 2002.
Payyanur: The kaliyattam festival of Kurinji Bhagavathi Temple, Thayineri will be held from 10th to 13th February.
Payyanur: Payyanur College won the championship in the Kannur Universtiy intercollegiate women's volleyball by defeating Kanhangad Nehru College.
Payyanur: The kaliyattam festival of Vellur Kottanachery Temple begins today. Various theyyams like Vettakkoru Makan,Thoovakkaran,Vellakkari veeran,Vishnumoorthi,Madayil Chamundi will be performed during the five day long festival. Ganamela, Fireworks are also conducted as part of the festival.

Payyanur: The vigilance wing of the Police conducted a lighting raid at the Municipal Office and took the relevant records into custody yesterday. The raid followed a complaint alleging large scale corruption in the recent maintanance of the bypass road. The police action was conducted by Mr. Pokker DySP (Vigilance ). The gutters in this road was filled with mere soil without using tar and granite stones. The journey through this road has been horrible for the last few months. The people residing on both sides of the road have complained several times about the pathetic condition of the road which made their life difficult and staged a protest march to the municipal office recetnly. But no action was taken by the municipal authorities in this regard so far. The opposition raised this issue in the municipal council but the allegations were dismissed by the CPM lead ruling front. The vigilance police squad along with the muncipal engineer also inspected the bypass road .

Payyanur: The arrangements for the federation cup national volley ball tournament are in the final stage now. The tournament will commence on 3rd February at the specially arranged Jimmy George Floodlit Stadium in Govt Boys HS Grounds here. Sri. PM Sayed, the dy speaker of Loksabha will formally inaugurate the tourney on 3rd Feb . Various cutural and sports-related events are also conducted along with the tournment. A seminar on "Indian Sports- Issues and Hopes" will be condcuted on 2nd Feb. Sri. PP Lakshmanan will inaugurate the seminar. The veteran sports personalities in and around Payyanur will be honoured at this function. A special dance programme by Kerala Kalamandalam will be performed at AK Krishnan Master Auditorium in GBHS on the same day evening.
The work of the temporary gallery with a seating capacity of 10,000 is already completed. The ticket rates are Rs 30/- for gallery(Rs. 150/- for season ticket) and Rs.60/- for chair(Rs. 300/- for season ticket). Ticket charges will be raised by Rs.10/- for the matches from semi-final onwards. Total eight teams will participate in the men's section and 6 teams on women's section. A total of 26 matches will be played in the tournament which is conducted on a league-knockout basis. The final will be played on 10th February.

Payyanur: Chief Minister Sri AK Antony today inaugurated the newly constructed housing complex for police at Payyanru today. The police family quarters are located in the old police ground on the hospital road. Several dignitaries including the Municipal Chaiperson, Smt. S.Jyothi and senior police officials attended the function.
