Dubai: The Onam celebrations of Payyanur Souhruda Vedi, Dubai was held today at Princess Hotel Auditorium, Dubai. Famous playback singer Chitra Iyer inaugurated the function. KV Gopalan(president PSV Dubai) presided over. Abdul Khader (president WAKE-Welfare Associaton of Kannur Expatriates), Usman Karapath(president PSV Abu Dhabi) and Y A Rahim (president Indian Association, Sharjah) offered felicitations. Ramesh Payyanur welcomed the audience and Smt Usha Nair offered vote of thanks. Various culutural programs like classical and cinematic dances, solos and group songs, mimics show were presented by the members and their children. A delcious Ona Sadya was another highlight of the program. VP Sasikumar co-ordinated the entire programs.

Payyanur: This year's Navarathri festival will be celebrated with variuos programs at different parts of Payyanur. Payyanur Souparnika is conducting a Sangeetha Mela from 26th Sept to 4th Oct. KG Jayan (of Jaya Vijaya) will inaugurate the musical fest at SS Temple Kalyana Mandapam. Noted singers will present their concerts on the following days. P. Leela's concert will be held on the concluding day.
Navarathri will be celebrated at Pothamkandam Ananda Bhavanam with various cultural programs. The concert of KG Jayan, Tayambaka of Mattannur Sankarankutty, Kathakali by PSV Natyasangam Kottakkal, Music program by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri,Ganamela by Unni Menon are some of the programs here.

Payyanur: Kizhakke Purayil Devaki (60) wife of Kooverikkaran Kannan of Kunhimangalam died due to snake poison. Smt. Devaki was harvesting in the field when she was bite by a poisonous snake near Malliottu.
Notice Served to Telephone Booth Owners:
Payyanur: The Telecom Department served notice to the Public Telephone Booth Owners in Payyanur on receipt of genuine complaints for collecting service charges for the local calls from the public. The Department clarified that calls upto Uppla on the north side and calls upto Badagara on the south side from Payyanur are considered as local calls and the Telephone Booths should not levy any service charges for the calls within this area.
Payyanur: A folk theatre festival will be held at Payyanur on 25th and 26th September. The festival jointly organised by Kerala Folklore Academy and South Zone Cultural Centre of Tanjaur will be held at Gandhi Maidan. G.Karthikeyan, the minister for cultural affairs will inaugurate the festival at 10 am on 25th september while PK Sreemathi MLA will preside over. Various folk artforms from different parts of the country will be staged during the festival . Seminars on several subjects also will be held. The closing ceremony will be inaugurated by T.Govindan MP at 5 pm on 26th.

Payyanur Sauhruda Vedi, Bahrain Chapter celebrated its Onam Festival on 19th September, 2003 at South Park Restaurant. The event was attended by about 200 people consisting of members and their families and guests.
The Chief Guests were the noted novel and short story writer Mr. Akbar Kakkatil; and well known Malayalam Cine Director Mr. Ali Akbar. The programme was also attended by Mr. Soman Baby, Chief Reporter of Gulf Daily News, Mr. P. Unnikrishnan, Asianet Bahrain Representative, Mr. E..A. Salim, General Secretary of Surya Bahrain Chapter, Mr. Samuel Kizhakkepuram, NORKA representative along with the adviser of Payyanur Sauhruda Vedi Mr. C.R. Nambiar.
The programme included varied cultural programmes by its members and families followed by a traditional Ona Sadhya.
