Payyanur: New speed boats will be put in service in the kotty-kottapuram waterway. To improve the quality of the existing service, a boat-centre will be opened at Ayitti Ferry, informed Water Transport Dept at Nileshwaram. The offices of the Water Transport Dept will be shifted to Aayitti from Kotty from next month.

Payyanur: Payyanur GBHS will be one of the six centres in Kannur district for the centralized valuation of answersheets of the ongoing SSLC examination. Hindi paper will be valuated at GBHS,Payyanur. The vaulation will begin on 2nd May and is expected to complete the target within 15 days.
Payyanur: The headload workers of Payyanur started a lighting strike this morning against alleged police action against two of its union members. The workers gathered around the policestation had heated arguments with police which created tension in the area. According to our reporter, an argument between a bus cleaner and a headload worker at the busstand yesterday evening resulted in the police action which followed by the strike. Later police charged cases against the bus employee as well as the headload worker. The strike was complete and paralysed the business centres at busstand,central bazar and perumba till this evening.

Payyanur: BSNL, the national telecom service provider, will be launching the new wireless phone service at Payyanur from this month. In the beginning 500 connections will be given . All the arrangements to launch the new service has been completed, informed L.Anantharam, the General Manger of BSNL Kannur. Thalassery, Kannur and Kasargod are the other exchanges to have the new service along with Payyanur.

Payyanur: Sanjayan Memorial Library, Annur is celebrating its 31st anniversary on 11th April,2002. Sri.KV Raghavan Master, AEO Payyanur will inaugurate the function and CK Sekharan will preside over the function.
Payyanur :The PTA, students and the locals gave a warm send-off to Sri. K Sekhara Poduval, teacher of BEMLPS Payyanur who is retiring from his service. Sri. Sekharan Master (KS Poduval) is a known poet and cultural activist also. Payyanur Kunhiraman, CV Ramakrishnan, CK Sekharan,KK Sreedharan etc attended the function.

Payyanur: Lasya College of Music and Dance, Pilathara is conducting a workshop on classical dance and music. Internationally known dancer Smt. Vasundhara Doraiswami will take class on "Choreography of Bharatanatyam" and well known musician Neyyatinkara Mohanachandran will conduct classes on the topic "literature of Karnatic Music".
