Atomic Power Station at Peringome – Scientists Re-visited

Payyanur: Scientists re-visited Peringome on 16th September, 2003 in connection with the proposal to set up an Atomic Power Station at Peringome. The proposal was first came up in 1990 and was discarded temporarily because of the objection from the local public.

The Scientists visited the proposed site near the CRPF Camp as well as the proposed site for disposing the waste at Perumthatta. Though Bhoothan Kettu near Ernakulam and similar site in Kozhikode District are in the list, it is understood that preference is for Peringome while considering the availability of infrastructure necessities. The visit of the Scientists to the site again disturbed the local people and the local leaders informed that they will not allow to materialise this project.
