Payyanur: A massive tourism project with an estiamted cost of Rs.22 lakhs has been planned for Payyanur. The main centre will be at Uliyathu Kadavu, the site where the historic Uppu Satyagraha was held during the freedom struggle. The municipality already handed over a land of 40 cents at this location to the tourism promotion council for the project. A memorial of the great moment of the freedoms struggel will be built here for Rs.9,25,000. The construction will be carried out by Nirmiti Kendra. The road to this location will be tarred and expaned for Rs 5 lakhs by PWD.
A tourism information centre will be built at Perumba which will cost around Rs. 8 lakhs. Internet , presentation/exhibition hall, dormitory facility will be available at this centre. A house boat will begin service at Perumba. A boat jetty will be built at Perumba for this purpose. KV Thomas, the minister for tourism , will inaugurate the project on 17th February at Payyanur.
