Balan Master Retires From Service

Shri P. Balan Master, the noted figure in Payyanur’s political and social arena is retiring from his official services on 31st March 2002. Presently he is serving as the Head Master of BEMLP School, Madayi. He was working as a teacher in Payyanur BEMLPS till 1998. Shri Balan Master was an active leader of CPI-M till 1987 and is one of the founder leaders of CMP lead by MV Raghavan.

He served as reporter of Desabhimani daily at Payyanur for about 20 years. He was one of the pioneer leaders in forming and establishing Kerala Private Teachers Union (KPTU). He had undergone jail imprisonment for participating in the Employees & Teachers Strikes during Eighties.

He contested assembly bye-election in 1988 from Taliparamaba as an UDF candidate but lost to Shri Pacheni Kuhiraman of CPI-M.

Shri Balan Master also working actively in the Co-operative movement. He served as the Director and later Vice-president of Payyanur Co-Op Rural Bank for several years. He was the president of Kannur District Co-op Bank during 1992-1997. He also served as the founder director of Pariyaram Medical College, Director of RAIDCO and many other co-operatives.

Presently he is the State Executive Committee Member of CMP. Balan Master is the President of the recently established Payyanur Urban Co-operative Bank. He is also the Patron of Payyanur Dot Com Group.

Various programmes are being arranged as part of his send off function. Shri MV Raghavan, the Minister for Co-operation will inaugurate the send-off ceremony on 4th April, 2002. Shri TK Balan, MLA, Smt. Sreemathi Teacher, MLA will also attend the function.
