Pariyaram Medical College: MCI Team Begin Inspection

Pariyaram: A two-member team of the medical council of India (MCI) began inspection at the Pariyaram Medical College this morning to ascertain if the college could be granted its approval. The MCI team comprising Dr. Benzal and Dr Shantaram Shetty, held discussions with the college managing director, Dr.PK Gangadharan Nair and other officials on the additional infra-structural works undertaken in the institution as demanded by a MCI team that visited Kannur in July last. Later, the team began a personal inspection of various units in the college, the sources said. Three teams of the MCI had visited the institution since April 2000 to find out whether the college deserved its recognition. However, approval had been refused so far on the grounds that the college did not possess the requisite infrastructure besides adequate staff strength. MV Raghavan, the state minister for co-operation as well the founder of this institution visited the college yesterday and expressed satisfaction over the progress and said he was confident that the much-awaited recognition would not go elusive this time. The minister also charged vested interests with attempting to destroy the institution to settle personal scores against him by raising issues like ownership of the land and other minor issues.
